Music lessons can be one of the most exciting, yet nerve-wracking endeavors you can choose. If you’re just starting out, the more knowledge you can grasp, the better.
One of the best ways to motivate a music student to practice their instrument more is by making sure you switch things up, and introduce new skills to them.
A helpful way to do this is by getting great educational music books that can help them brush up on their technique, acquire new skills, and prepare them to advance further in their musical journeys! There are a bunch of different types of music books you can get.
A few of the types are:
Lesson Books– These are music books that are specifically created to aid you in learning a specific instrument. Whether you’re taking piano lessons, singing lessons, violin lessons, or guitar lessons…there’s a learning book out there for you!
Lesson books help to guide you through different core concepts, and also helps you learn new songs while moving at the right pace for your current skills. They have lesson books for all different levels. So, you’ll always be able to find one that suits you and the place you’re at right now.
Theory Books– These types of music books are exactly what they sound like, they focus on learning music theory. They often consist of written exercises that are created to help students learn how to properly read music notes, which in turn makes it easier for them to read sheet music when they’re learning new songs in their lesson books.
Technique Books– These music books focus on helping music students practice their coordination, and it helps to reinforce technique that is taught through other music books like their lesson books, or what they’ve learned previously from music teachers.
Performance Books– These music books tend to be similar to lesson books, but they’re a little more complicated and advanced. The songs in these books are slightly more difficult to learn, but are a good challenge!
You don’t have to get all of these types of books, as it can easily become overwhelming when there are too many options to choose from. We suggest getting whatever feels the most comfortable, or whatever you feel you could use the most help in.
We will have a follow up blog post in the near future with many suggestions and options to choose from in each type of book.
